Bright Lights is a non-profit organization which provides summer hands-on learning experiences for elementary and middle school youth, in a unique social and learning environment emphasizing specific academic, hobby, and career interests. Several week-long, half-day focused learning experiences are offered in the summer, about specific topics. Students' confidence builds when they can focus with mentors who love a subject, which often leads to life-long interests. Some opportunities to be involved include special mailing projects, periodic large mailings that need to be stuffed and sorted, delivery of program brochures the last weekend in March, classroom volunteers for one week in the summer (3 sessions totaling 20 hours offered from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. or 1 p.m.-4 p.m.), and project work that's available where a volunteer might work on scholarship outreach or a marketing project during a semester. This is an excellent opportunity for those in education and social science majors, as well as majors related to math, science, technology, and fine arts. Applications will be available in February.
