Friendship Home

About

Friendship Home exists to support, shelter and advocate for victims of domestic violence and their children. There are many ways to get involved with Friendship Home. Some ways include: Children's Advocate Volunteer, Children's Match Volunteer, being a non-program volunteer (including Administrative and Development Volunteers, and Special Events Volunteers); working with the Safe Quarters Drive, Stuff the Bus; and working on group projects. Training is required for Children's Advocate and Match volunteers. These opportunities are typically the role most students will take on as it is a great way to guarantee hours. Due to COVID-19 the Children's Advocate Volunteer role is currently unavailable.   There are long-term, short-term, one-time events, and group opportunities available. While serving here, you'll have the opportunity to work with children, infant-18 years of age, individuals with disabilities, minorities, older adults, women, and immigrants/refugees.

There are internship opportunities as well at Friendship Home!  We accept students doing an internship for both a class credit and for those who are pursuing internships on their own.  We do required at least a 100-hour commitment and there is a 40-hour training involved.  Our interns work alongside staff as they respond to crisis phone calls, safety plan, welcome new families into our program or help facilitate support groups.  Our interns spend most of their time at our communal shelter which provides great opportunity to build rapport with the families on site and understand the barriers they are facing as well as recognize their strengths and resiliency.
