Heartland Big Brothers Big Sisters work to improve the self-esteem and enhance the quality of life for children through positive, caring, one-to-one mentoring relationships between children and adults. Big Brothers/Big Sisters spend 1-4 hours per week mentoring a child and engaging in activities together. There's a minimum of a six-month commitment. While serving, you'll have the opportunity to assist or plan a monthly activities for children without a Big Brother/Big Sister. You'll also be able to mentor children at the Friendship Home, or Children of Prisoners. There are some public relations and advertising opportunities available. This is an excellent opportunity for education, marketing, psychology, and social science majors. A criminal history check will be performed. Dates are ongoing, with times mostly from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., and groups and individuals alike are welcome. Minimal training is required.
