Lux Center for the Arts is a non-profit art center located in the historic University Place neighborhood of Lincoln. The Lux Center hosts exhibitions in contemporary craft, art and design as well as arts educational facilities with classes for youth and adults in ceramics, printmaking, painting, drawing, fiber arts and jewelry arts. The Lux Center also works with under privileged youth through on-site outreach opportunities. Some positions open for volunteers include: teaching assistant for kids' classes (Saturday morning for 2 hours), gallery attendant (Tuesday-Friday 11-5 or Saturday 10-5, in 3-4 hour periods), studio technician (approximately 5 hours/week), administration (Monday-Friday 9-5 or Saturday 10-5, bi-weekly required), and maintenance (Monday-Friday 9-5 or Saturday 10-5, biweekly required). Lux Center for the Arts is located within walking distance from East Campus. This is an excellent opportunity for art majors in particular, and both individual and group opportunities are available. A regular schedule will be set based on your availability. The number of hours varies. There are one-time and semester commitments available, as well as internships that have academic credit. A background check is required for volunteers who are working with children.
