MOPS is a program designed to nurture mothers with children ages birth to kindergarten. To further encourage these mothers, activities are provided for both them and their children in separate venues at the same location. While the mothers meet, service-learners care for the little ones in a loving environment. Students will work with the children as a positive role model to increase their communication skills while providing a positive social reinforcement, recreational and educational activities. Our MOPS group meets the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays, 8:45 to 11:15am at Southwood Lutheran Church, from September through May, during the school year. Responsible participants communicate with toddlers, preschoolers, parents and fellow workers while initiating playful activities and age appropriate lessons with the children. Lessons are normally faith based and created prior to the meetings. Volunteers benefit by building their resume, increasing their job experience, becoming involved in the community, building social connections and deciding on their future career. Participants must have access to transportation to and from meeting location. It is also important that the service learner be consistent and commit to attending meetings. To participate, please forward your cover letter and resume to the email address of email@example.com. An interview and often a background check follow. Qualified candidates will have additional minor paperwork to complete.
